The Center for Family Development is western New York's only attachment center that specializes in the treatment of adoption and foster families with trauma and attachment disorder. This site features articles, parenting tips to support attachment and bonding, and information about services and support for children and families.

Created by The National Adoption Center, this course provides an interactive overview of the process of adopting one's foster child.

 

Foster Parent College
Foster Parent College (FPC) offers affordable online training for foster, adoptive and kinship parents. Using the World Wide Web, training is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

 

Temperament As A Means of Adoption/Foster Matching
Matching in adoptive/foster care is when steps are taken to link caregivers and children on key factors with the intent of facilitating the most effective transition and long term social/emotional/relational health for the entire family unit. Temperament in children is important because it is the outward manifestation of how a child will act across situations, which could help match a specific child with a family suited to that specific cluster of needs.

Becoming a Foster Parent
OCFS provides comprehensive information about New York State’s foster care system, the needs of children in temporary, out-of-home placement, and the qualifications and requirements prospective foster parents must meet. Our resources and publications, in English, Spanish and other languages, provide more information on how to become a foster or adoptive parent. We must remain ever vigilant to give our children the best care and support, while bringing permanency and stability to their lives.

 

NYS Foster Parent Manual
The Foster Parent Manual provides practical information for foster parents on topics like medical care, payment, and the role of the court. It also provides guidance on areas such as welcoming a child, discipline, and parent visits.

 

New York State Kinship Navigator
The Navigator seeks to assist these caregivers by providing information on financial assistance, legal information and referrals, and other types of issues that caregivers face when raising children in order to provide stability and permanency in the home.
